Having been wild Lizzie is a little cautious and stand offish. She is currently being gentled and trained in preparation for her forever home. She is mother to Joey and best friends with Fern. She would love to be homed with Fern.
Lizzie is a beautiful grey donkey. We are just getting to know her, she just arrived with her little foal Joey. While there are so many things that we do not know…we know that she is an excellent mother. She is protective of him, and very nurturing….yet she is not overly indulgent…quick to give him a gentle kick with her right hind to communicate her displeasure. She is tender. She indulge… his frequent requests to nurse, snuggles him gently, and seems to intuitively shield his injured right eye. She is of course wild, one of the many burros gathered by the BLM. Lizzie seems to be redefining our definition of what wild means. She has a gentle and intelligent eye and a peaceful yet watchful nature. We will dedicate the next year to her gentling and training, and then when she is ready (and her little foal healthy and ready to be independent and strong) we will find her a home where her heritage and history will be protected, and her future guaranteed.
