Red Bucket Rescue # 114 Dixon

From  the moment that we say “yes” to a horse, they are ours…we are committed to them 100%.
We don’t need a picture, we never care what they look like, that is why it is called unconditional
love. We often times white knuckle it waiting until they arrive safely, periods of silence in the
rescue world can be terrifying, especially in high risk rescues. We definitely had our moments of
worry…a high risk colt: He injured a tendon racing. He raced again, injured the tendon yet again.
His fate would have been a match race…..and a trip in a double decker. When we heard the news that he was safe, was ours to save, we had a period of a very long exhale. Last night, long after all our ponies were tucked in for the night, Dixon (named lovingly after the family that built our horses ranch nearly 30 years ago ) came home. We are very grateful for the small village that came together to help our handsome boy…our dear friend Shirley Puga, Monty Roberts for providing temporary layover, One Horse At A Time for donating his castration, and our rescue colleague Marlene Dodge for his transportation home.
While Dixon didn’t have a remarkable career, he has spectacular confirmation, a gentle and intelligent eye, an extraordinary temperament, and a village committed to his safe and happy life. Thank you to all who make our work possible…it is worth it!
