Baldwin is a gentle giant, he is approximately 16 hh with an approximate foal date 1990. We are uncertain of his breeding, but  cuddle bear comes to mind, it is likely that he has some Quarter Horse or possible Draft Cross.  He is in good health and appropriate for riding at the walk only. He is very suitable for light bareback rides. Baldwin is very gentle, loves children and all kinds of attention. Baldwin is looking for a home where he will be loved, have a gentle lifestyle and be a member of a forever family. He came from a very neglectful background and seems to crave contact and attention.  Baldwin is currently available for adoption and hopes to be placed this summer in order to enjoy it with ‘ his ‘ new kids before they go back to school. Best friends to Dublin.

Baldwin was the epitome of unwanted. He had been left in a stall for nearly five years…ignored, uncared for, and completely neglected. He hadn’t been groomed, his filthy stall wasn’t cleaned, he had no exercise…no chance. When the stable was required to “get rid” of a number of horses, no one would take Baldwin…they only wanted the “good” horses. Baldwin was scheduled to be donated to the mountain lion rescue. There wasn’t a chance that we were going to let that happen…no way! You see, we think that Baldwin is a perfectly good horse. In fact, we think that Baldwin is a wonderful horse. Baldwin is kind, gentle, noble, and very very grateful. Markie was also grateful this week to spend time with our handsome gentleman and slowly barn walk Baldwin around a ranch that he owns. Baldwin doesn’t need a bridle or a saddle, he carefully places each of his thick old legs, careful to give Markie a safe, smooth…and memorable ride. We salute Baldwin and all of the old timers who have given so much to us. We are glad to be able to return the favor, and save, serve, and care for the previously unwanted…the GOOD horses!

Many or our horses require extended time at Red Bucket….we never rush them, we know that their healing and rehabilitation…their training time, is as variable as the horses are themselves. We take that second part of our mission seriously, and allow plenty of time for rehabilitation, training….and to rebuild shattered trust. Some of our horses will be with us for up to two years before they are ready for their ” forever home “. Not Baldwin. Baldwin came to us last spring, he had been neglected…deprived of both nourishment and emotional fuel, starving for attention, trust and companionship. He came to us with the threat of being donated to the mountain lion rescue…we weren’t about to let that happen! At Red Bucket, Baldwin has done more than survive, he has thrived.This summer, Baldwin has declared himself ready to meet his forever family, he would love a family with either children or elderly caregivers. He loves attention, to be groomed, turned out (he is a master at rolling ), and craves anything involving kind words, scratching and gentle pats. He finds renewed purpose in being barebacked at the walk by some of the younger Red Riding Hoods, it makes him feel useful, wanted and important. He is a delightfully gentle soul and would love to find his family while kids are still out of school for the summer and the days are long.
