Description:
Elwell, foaled in 2010, is a black 14.1 hand gelding who has a soft eye, big heart, and undeniable desire to please. Elwell is requiring additional time to be saddle trained. He is proving to be kind and sensitive. Only the special and devoted need apply.
Facebook Welcome:
We had heard about him before we ever met him. A black stallion. He had been born on a Kill auction feed lot, destined for slaughter before he was even born. Thankfully, he was rescued with his mom, and… then adopted out. Like so many, he found himself in need of being rescued again. Additionally, he hadn’t been trained, and had been handled very little …leaving him disadvantaged, shy, a bit nervous, and lacking confidence in himself and others. He also loved to jump…and would with some regularity, jump out of a corral…a pasture…or any enclosure that he found himself in…… a small sticking point, for a horse who was not easy to catch! We welcomed him, of course…sight unseen, and in our good Red Bucket way, arranging in advance for his gelding, and prepared a stall strong and secure enough to safely hold the Black Stallion. In retrospect, we were in this case a bit over prepared, yet delighted in our newest resident. (We also have had a good laugh at our own expense). He was indeed a black stallion…a 3 1/2 year old colt, barely topping 14 hands. He still sports a baby fuzz to his blue black coat, a bit of wariness that he is slowly replacing with a desire to please. His eye is soft, pleading, and reflects a hopefulness and warmth that softly begs to be nurtured. He has proven himself to be not only intelligent and kind, but starting to shyly demonstrate a yearning to be touched, scratched, and praised. After some additional confidence building exercises, our friend and colleague,Obbie, will begin his saddle training. Already, we are projecting that this little “black stallion” will make a child a lovely faithful friend…and we commit to give him the training and foundation that he needs to ensure that his next home will be a forever home. Named after a special family, dear supporters, and two special and sweet and spirited boy “colts”, we proudly present….Elwell!
