Description:
Parker is a lovely and well bred 16 hh dark bay thoroughbred gelding with a foal date of 2006. Once highly valued, he injured himself racing, and was on his way to slaughter when he was rescued. He is seeking a home with a small amount of land where he can be a friend and companion. He has a wonderful personality and the true heart of a hero. He is still a young horse, so we are seeking a responsible true horse person who will provide a caring and safe forever home.
Facebook Update:
After months of rehab…Parker had his first turn out. Four years before he came to us he was highly prized, a well bred colt, purchased for $105,000 at the Keenland sale. He went on to perform well, keeping his end if the bargain, trying his best and placing respectably in his races. And then two unthinkable things occurred, he suffered a fracture, doing his job, and no longer valued was discarded in an isolated stall abandoned and betrayed…without food….waiting for the kill truck. A good Samaritan found him in time and called us for help. 250 pounds later, we are slowly and carefully reintroducing Parker to being a horse again. He knows that again he is highly prized, not for what he can do…but who he is!
Facebook Welcome:
RBER was contacted by a Good Samaritan, Donny, who rescued a race horse he found on a local track. The gelding had been performing well, and then injured himself. Donny found the horse emaciated in a stall, tracked down the trainer, and was allowed to take the horse home. He fed, groomed and nurtured the horse and when the groceries caught up with the horse, and the grocery bill caught up with Donny he reached out to us. Donny knew that he didn’t have the financial ability to continue to care for the horse, nor did he have the skill to retrain the horse, who was literally feeling his oats now that he was being fed regularly. We see Donny as a hero, for doing the right thing….twice. Donny who genuinly loves this bay beauty is making donations monthly to help support the gelding that we are now calling Parker, after Lu Parker whose KTLA news cast initiated Donny’s call for help. Thanks Donny, you are a true hero!
