Keller and Jill

Many of you have inquired about Keller….Heavily abused, starving and then abandoned in a river bed. He had been tied to a tree by a wire by the homeless that inhabit the riverbed, our vet suggested that we call him Coat Hanger, not because of the wire around his neck…but because of his emaciated condition. Brianna named him Keller, meaning ” dear friend ” or ” companion “. In the beginning, he was despondent, his depression scared us. Soon, he nickered for the buckets of sweet tea that we hung in his stall to guard against his chronic low grade colics. As his ribs began to disappear, he began to whinny for anyone wearing red. Rather than stiffening when getting groomed, he began to relax…close his eyes…enjoy the intimacy of touch, of tenderness. Today he loped off in his turn out, a little sassy….a lot happy. Thank you for all who support us in our work, it’s worth it!
