He had been perfectly fine 7 months ago…but his owner had abandoned him…and the property owner did not want to feed him, and so he didn’t, at least not much. We were reassured that he was a good horse when he wasn’t so skinny…..and of course, he was a stud. The property owner called us in a state of panic. The horse was wobbling and he did not want it …falling, or dying, in his back yard. Early in the conversation, and because we are very full, we initially suggested that the caller contact Animal Control. But once we realized that it was the owner who had starved the horse, we told him that we would be there right away. Like all of the rescued animals that we have had the honor of saving, he is grateful, and of course we feel grateful to tuck our elbows in a little tighter at the dinner table and welcome Charlie to his second chance.
