When a horse comes to Red Bucket, they receive a name, a bucket…and the gift of dignity. Sadly, we are approached weekly about dozens of horses who are desperate and in need of rescue. We work tirelessly behind the scenes to network and place the many horses that are brought to our attention. We were first alerted to a tragic situation of three horses who were quickly running
out of time. Their elderly owners were frail, sick and unable to care for themselves…let alone the horses. The owners, in their late 80’s had run out of money. The woman has terminal cancer and was left in a very weakened state from both her illness and the chemotherapy. Her husband recently suffered a debilitating stroke. We are relieved to report that the horses were placed safely
as a result of our help…but it takes a village. Fortunately, the horses found permanent sanctuary and the elderly couple’s neighbors who contacted us are also providing care for the couple.
