Darla never had a Mother Day. She had been robbed of the joy of motherhood, and while foaling, nursing, and loving a foal were not new experiences for her (after all she is a pro) motherhood had brought a fear and anguish that we can only i…magine…in nightmares. Today Darla had her very first Mother’s Day, and the peaceful satisfaction of watching little McGarrah trot and play in her first “big girl” turn out. Under her Mothers protective and watchful eye, McGarrah pranced, bucked and showed off her new tricky moves…then guzzled mouthfuls of warm mothers milk and collapsed in an exhausted little heap at her mothers chipped and splayed feet. Darla’s cautious eye turned soft as she gazed at her healthy and happy little foal. McGarrah will never know what her mother knows…and perhaps that alone will make Darla’s first Mothers Day the very best day a mother could have.
