Cohen, an Arabian mare of beauty and elegance, can easily be thought of as Red Bucket’s Fairy Tale Princess with a story in which the beautiful heroine is saved in the nick of time. Cohen is breathtakingly beautiful, proud and spirited. She is all girl, mixed with a dash of attitude that equals a stunning and spectacular Arabian mare.
The irony is that when rescued she had impeccably detailed braids in her magnificent mane bringing to mind the affection and care that often comes with a special horse cherished by a little girl or one ready to step foot into the show pen. But, this was no show horse ready to go into the arena; instead she was in a crowded group of many others, ready to take her place in a slaughter auction pen. To think about this glorious and beautiful mare going off to the slaughterhouse is too much to comprehend! How could this have happened? Where was her loving owner? The devastating reality is a reminder that 92.3% of all horses going to slaughter are perfectly sound and healthy.
Thankfully, Cohen’s story did not end at the slaughterhouse because Red Bucket rescued her from that terrible fate. She was part of a larger group of horses when the breeder liquidated his herd and sent them to slaughter. The group also included Red Bucket rescued horses Shields and the wonderful Brimer who was lost to colic earlier this year. Cohen began her new lease on life and while in mandatory quarantine for all new arrivals to Red Bucket, she was lovingly named, according to Susan Peirce, Director of The Red Bucket Equine Rescue Center, “in honor of Helen Cohen, a woman of both elegance and grace.” It has proven to be a fitting name for such a wonderful mare.
Cohen has an amazing work ethic; she is agile, athletic, and stunning to behold with an appealing white snip on her nose. She does have a flair for the dramatic and enjoys recognition, adoration, and praise! Arabian horses are known for their spirit, pride and endurance. She is trained for riding on the trail, and she excels at it. Cohen is ready for an intermediate rider to love her and provide her with a forever home.
Our press is very important. Thanks to the ABC television piece that ran this past December, a kind philanthropic woman named Stephanie learned about our good work and came out for a visit to Red Bucket. During her tour, she met Cohen and has generously agreed to sponsor her until an adoring new owner understands the special gift that this mare offers to her human companion. Cohen deserves her fairy tale ending complete with a loving owner who will cherish and adore her happily ever after.
One of our goals is to have more of our horses sponsored allowing us to continue to save and care for other horses that are continuously in need.
