March 2015 Adoption Highlight: Prudence and Crumpet

When the Weber family came to Red Bucket Equine Rescue, they were looking to adopt
mini horses as companions and playmates to join another mini that they already owned.
Familiar with the commitment adopting a mini horse entailed, Bill, Charlene and their
daughters were ready to expand their family. They chose Red Bucket because of its
professionalism, and they chose rescue to give horses a chance, horses that might
otherwise be put down. Hearing their experience with rescued minis, and aware of their
unbridled commitment, Red Bucket introduced them to Prudence and Crumpet.
Prudence and Crumpet were found abandoned and tied to a fence with no food, no
water, and a potentially fatal case of founder. Prudence, who is more dominant, is the
mother, and Crumpet, who is more playful, is her foal. Days away from being
euthanized by Animal Control, Red Bucket stepped in not only to nourish these innocent
animals, but also to bring them back to health with proactive treatment and veterinary
intervention.
Despite these potential deterrents, the Webers could not wait to bring them home.
Crumpet received the initial clearance, and Prudence followed about a month later.
Their current quality of life has been described by Bill as “plush,” with plenty of time in
pasture and a large, covered stall for each of them. Prudence and Crumpet have gone
from being abandoned and left to starve, to integral family members. They have a
forever home with people who are loving, understanding, and willing to ensure that their
well-being doesn’t have to be questioned ever again.
