May 2015 Horse Highlight: Behren

He is big, bay and beautiful! Stunningly gorgeous…Behren is just incredible!

“Behren is a dreamboat! He is one of the most incredible horses I have ever met,” according to Red Bucket Trainer Shona Barnthouse. He is a big-bodied Thoroughbred who looks like an imported Warmblood at first glance. Behren has great presence. With his long neck, short back, and long legs, he is just magnificent! He stands at a well-muscled 16.2 hands and is one of the prettiest horses you will ever see.

At only 21 months, Behren was already on the fast track to slaughter. He was in training as a racehorse at too young of an age, resulting in two bowed tendons. He was on his way to slaughter when Red Bucket saved him. It has taken a lot of love and painstaking time to rehabilitate Behren. Nicknamed “Baby Bear” he is now all grown up and is in the process of being retrained from the ground up. His body is just naturally amazing.

Trained in both Western and English, Behren actually looks very much like a Hunter with his beautiful conformation. He has that certain “wow” or “beefcake” factor built in. “He is extremely intelligent and a fast learner,” says Shona. “He will confidently try anything you ask of him.” Shona believes he will excel at both the Western and English disciplines.

If you viewed a group of beautiful bay horses out grazing in a green pasture, Behren would definitely be the standout among them. Between his well-muscled physique, stature and impressive presence, he looks like he would be right at home in a royal family portrait!

Behren has a great work ethic and is grateful for his life. He has personality plus and is social with both his herd of horses and the human Red Bucket volunteers! He is an impressive and very special horse who will make an avid and confident intermediate level rider a wonderful partner. Beauty, brains and athleticism rolled up into one outstanding package.
