A legacy brings hope to the future while passing on a timeless part of one’s self…such is our
gorgeous, spirited and carefree cover boy “Legacy” with his undeniable beauty and presence. He is
both a valued and loved part of the Red Bucket community.
“Legacy was bred to be a champion,” according to Linda Rose, a leadership team member at Red
Bucket. “His beautiful gleaming photo is the first picture you see on Red Bucket’s website.” Team
member Anne-Marie Hallman says, “Legacy is by far the most inquired about horse on the Facebook
message page…his beauty is captured so well in all of his photographs, and horse lovers of all ages
are drawn to him.”
But life has not always been an easy or promising road for this gorgeous and well-bred
Thoroughbred. Keeping a secret from his family, the owner’s purchase and loving care for his two
horses had only been discovered after he passed away. That is when the family learned, for the
first time, about his two beautiful Thoroughbreds who had been secretly kept at a nearby training
facility. Because the facility was owed money, they threatened to sell the two horses to slaughter
if the bill was not paid within 30 days.
Not only was the family mourning the loss of their father, now they were put in the uncomfortable
position of having a deadline to pay the training facility for horses they had no idea existed! On
top of that news, both horses were stallions, which would make taking care of them an overwhelming
task. While still grieving, the family reached out to Red Bucket for help. It was in the middle of
a very tough time for Red Bucket; they were right in the middle of relocating the facility from
Huntington Beach to their current home in Chino Hills. Nevertheless, Red Bucket agreed to take both
horses. The name “Legacy” was chosen by Red Bucket in honor of the family’s father, a hope for the
future while passing on a timeless part of him.
“He was a cute young horse who was curious and craved attention,” says Anne-Marie. Linda adds,
“Legacy’s playful nature, high spirits and stunning good looks caused quite a frenzy of adoption
applications when Legacy first arrived at Red Bucket. But he was also completely untrained, and
finding that perfect ‘forever home’ was going to take time, patience and training. Although we
could have found a home for Legacy immediately, it would not have been the responsible thing to do.
He wasn’t trained, wasn’t mature, and just wasn’t ready,” Linda adds. “That is the beauty of our
work here at Red Bucket. Our horses’ best interests are always first and foremost in everything we
do.”
Red Bucket leadership team member Michelle Walker says, “Legacy has a presence that
cannot be denied…he is stunningly beautiful!” His dark bay coat with four perfectly
matching white socks is an amazing sight to behold! Though Legacy was sensational to
look at upon arrival at the Red Bucket, he had not been handled much and it would take time to get
him ready for adoption. He also needed some pasture turnout time while transitioning from a
stallion to a gelding.
Currently being ridden under saddle, Legacy walks, trots and canters both ways. He is a darling
mover, has compact refined conformation and is very flashy! “It has been an incredible gift to see
Legacy grow and continue his under-saddle training in preparation for his forever home,” says
Michelle. Linda adds, “Now that Legacy is all grown up, I know that the loving family and promising
future he was so nearly denied is right around the corner, and I can’t wait to see what his next
chapter will bring!”
Legacy has proven to be the epitome of Thoroughbred elegance, grace and beauty. We know his forever
home is close at hand, and he is now ready to take that next step towards his bright future. “As
Legacy has grown up, he has turned into a magnificent gelding with so much potential,” says
Anne-Marie. “I cannot wait to see who the lucky adopter will be who claims his heart!” she exclaims.
