May 2015 Adoption Highlight: Laura and Piper

Considering the conditions that Piper was found in, she is lucky to be alive today. Part of a breeding scandal that brought over 40 Irish Thoroughbred horses into Red Bucket Equine Rescue’s care, Piper was near death, and too emaciated to even run through auction. However, after some time, love and care, Piper’s sensibility and intelligence started to shine through. While Piper’s past is deplorable, she was rescued to be provided a second chance at life. Whether by luck, coincidence, or fate, it seems as though Piper was meant to be rescued by Red Bucket, so that she could find her forever home.

When Laura Jarek learned about Red Bucket Equine Rescue, it was through a local newspaper that had featured Red Bucket on the front page. Having been on the lookout for a companion for her other horse Santino, Laura immediately put in an application. Laura and her husband were astounded by the Ranch, describing it as a “5 star hotel for horses,” and their match with Piper was almost instantaneous.

Red Bucket knew that this match was special; it was one of the quickest adoptions that had ever occurred! Perhaps it was Piper’s intelligent, soft, easy-going demeanor that proved fortuitous, or maybe it was her gentle spirit. Interestingly enough, Piper’s adoption inspired Laura to start volunteering at Red Bucket, teaching our young volunteers proper grooming and handling techniques. Red Bucket has grown to be so dear to Laura’s heart, and she is so grateful for all of the hard work and everything Red Bucket accomplishes.

The transition into Piper’s new home was smooth and easy, as Laura remembers paying attention to how well she acclimated. Piper settled in, moving forward with common sensibility. Piper was immediately welcomed into the Jarek family, and things seemed as thought they couldn’t get any better.

As time passed, the Jareks had the opportunity to move out of state, bringing along Santino and Piper to reside on their new property that is equipped for horses. The once emaciated mare now lives on 50 acres that allow for daily turnouts. She is spoiled and we couldn’t be happier for her.

Even to this day Laura is so overjoyed with her experience being matched with Piper through Red Bucket. The adoption made Laura feel like she was doing something important, and it made her feel good. Even while being out of state, Laura loves to send us amazing updates about her “Beautiful Piper,” reminding us of our mission to save and rehabilitate horses, restore their trust in humankind, and find them safe, loving, permanent adoptive homes.
