December 2014 Adoption Highlight: Kylee and Karma

Karma needed to be rescued not once, but twice. When she wasn’t fast enough to be a
successful race horse, she was rescued, then sold to be a brood mare. Sadly, she was
abandoned again. Fortunately, she found her way to Red Bucket, where rescue is only
the beginning. We committed to two years of training to prepare her for her forever
home.

Kylee came to Red Bucket looking for her first horse. Kylee had been riding and leasing
horses for five years with the constant threat that they could be sold out from under her
at any time. Her family decided it was time for Kylee to find a horse that would be hers.
After looking around, Kylee and her parents noticed something different about Red
Bucket Equine Rescue. They experienced a first-class home for horses when compared
to other stables, not what they imagined a rescue to be like.

At the Ranch Kylee had plenty of time and opportunity to work with and ride Karma in
the arenas and on trails. It didn’t take long before Kylee fell in love with Karma. Kylee
says that Karma is a perfect riding match and fits the expectations of a horse that she
had in her mind. She knew that Karma was the one. Since finding her forever home,
Karma has enjoyed and learned many things. They include being loved and part of a
family, all kinds of food (she still has her Red Bucket!), how to jump, and riding western.
With years of training under her belt, in addition to her desire to learn and please,
people often cannot believe that Karma is a rescue horse. Of course, Karma needed to
be matched diligently in order for this to be a success! Perhaps Kylee’s words can give
us insight into why we were able to match the two: “Don’t settle for the first horse you
see; wait until there is a true bond. Don’t let others persuade you in your choice of a
horse. Go with your heart and your gut.”

Even though Kylee had to wait a few years to have her very own horse, and Karma had
to be rescued twice, Red Bucket was able to bring the two together as our mission to
find the right match for every single one of our horses continues.
