June 2014 Adoption Celebration: Reynolds

Horses find their way to Red Bucket Equine Rescue under various circumstances. At times it’s amicable, while at others it’s urgent. Reynolds, along with Durham and Foster, were hours away from being sold for slaughter despite their healthy and sound demeanors. A team of people sprang into action to bring these special and marvelous Mustangs to quarantine and safety under the care of Red Bucket.

After their 30 days, Reynolds, Durham, and Foster were able to be assessed and put into Red Bucket’s “charm farm” with the intention of finding a forever home. After evaluation, we learned that Reynolds was not only an attractive looking horse, but he was also intelligent, kind eyed, had a desire to please, and was watchful. It’s amazing that these three once wild Mustangs who had been displaced, broken, and then discarded, still had the desire to make us happy. It’s this type of perseverance in horses that keeps Red Bucket motivated.

When Jackie Maher was looking for her new equine companion, she got into contact with Red Bucket after hearing about the organization from an article in a riding magazine. During the matching process, she let us know that she was looking for a nice trail horse with a little spunk. Having had Thoroughbreds in the past, Jackie was expecting to be matched with the same and even had her eye set on a few. When those prospects didn’t end up working out, Head Trainer and Director of Operations, Kimberly Fohrman, recommended Reynolds. Jackie says, “I liked the idea of trying something new. They took time to match and I never felt rushed, they were very accommodating and we even took him on a trail ride.”

It seems as though that trail ride had sealed the deal for Jackie, and a few months ago, Reynolds settled into his forever home. Jackie has Reynolds working with a trainer and describes him as: “very nice, very stout, strong, sturdy, and a real good listener. He’s cautious, anticipates, is a thinker, and has very good ground manners.” She says that they “will have many, many years together.” It’s this type of success that keeps Red Bucket inspired.
