Every horse has a story…even when we have very little history on the horse, the story unfolds. While it may be far too Polly Anna…or maybe it’s just impractical to think that we can right a previous injustice by rewriting a history, it is perhaps our greatest work to create the final chapters. It is the possibility of a new future, a meaningful life….a life replaced. Delilah has slowly begun to join us on the journey of transformation. Her interaction with humankind has become humane. She welcomes touch and rather than finding uncertainty, experiences kindness, nurturing…respect. Her work has become a source of fulfillment. Under saddle she tells us a story of an athleticism, an unparalleled work ethic, and a desire to please…and be pleasing. Her final chapter sits a bit incomplete, like the final stanza on a complex yet stirring poem, while the ink is not yet dry, the one certainty is a beautiful ending…..a life replaced.
