While the quality of the picture may not be very clear…we get the picture, and it is CRYSTAL!
They are a family, Brinkley, a beautiful and privately owned young mare, Jack a 32 year old benevolent gelding who decades ago was a prized show horse, who barely survived the tragic slide from wanted…to unwanted. A champion turned lesson horse…later abandoned with other 4 old guys, who were no longer valued, left to starve and slowly die. Joey is our special needs baby donkey, trampled at birth…blind in his right eye with partial facial paralysis, a HUGE heart, and naughty behavior (similar to Peter Rabbit, for those of you who may remember the tale). Joey has been “written up” three times in the last week for rascal like naughtiness and displaying behavior unbecoming to a Red Bucket equine! They love each other, both boys dote on Brinkley, who runs the show. Brinkley and Jack are amused by Joey’s shenanigans, they patiently tolerate his red-donk-u-lous antics, and when pushed too far, it is Brinkley who will put Joey in his place. Jack, Joey’s “Pop-Pop” is unwavering in his tolerance, even when it involves persistent ankle biting and attempts to have piggy-back rides. Their enrichment time is spent together, in a herd…in a family, their family. As Jack and Brinkley gently groom one another, in a reciprocal act of tenderness, little Joey cuddles up, nestling between them, knowing that he is safe, loved, and wanted.
