Good-Bye Dearest Brinker

We do not have the words to say good-bye to our special, silly, sometimes slightly naughty, always super sweet, and way-too-smart-for-his-own-good friend, Brinker. He was one of the original nine horses that we rescued so very many years ago. Originally rescued from slaughter as a baby, with what appeared to be a slab fracture, he was later abandoned and left in a pipe stall for 4 long years, and then faced going to slaughter for the second time. We were honored to rescue him…for real, and in addition to a red bucket gave him a promise of a home with us for his lifetime. His crippled front leg never got in the way of his adorable and irrepressible personality. Brinker never complained about his limitations, was a joy to care for, and an honor to save. He was quick to greet anyone with a a very enthusiastic kiss, and in the unfortunate circumstance of not being rewarded with a treat, Brinker would just kiss again…harder and faster. We learned to reward him quickly…and love him dearly. Our hearts are truly broken as we say a very painful good-bye to not only one of our original horses…but to one really original horse! While on this earth Brinker was unable to run…now we hope that he is able to fly. Brinker will be toasted and celebrated at 5:30 Saturday evening at his stall. All of his many friends are welcome to join us in saying farewell.
