We took this picture a few weeks ago, planning to proudly update our friends on the amazing progress that Hot Wheels has made this summer. He had been initially rescued from a kill lot, and faced being returned to that same lot, but a friend brought him to Red Bucket instead. Today, rather than updating you on the remarkable progress that Hot Wheels has made, we will report on what HE taught us; If we give them the time to heal, provide a loving environment free from expectation and time pressure, they will heal. If we open our hearts to them, listen to what they tell us and remove drama and stress from their environment, they can listen in return. If we treat them with respect, and invite them to do their very best, they will try to please, gain confidence in us and best of all regain confidence in themselves. That they, the rescued are not broken….but merely waiting for us to help them. That crying when we lose them is honoring.
Today, we are crying for our little pal who we lost to what his vet described as a blood clot to the brain. While we are shell shocked and riddled with grief, Hot Wheels also reminds us of the importance of our work. Sawyer and all of Hot Wheels friends will toast him and say good bye Saturday evening at 5:30 pm at his stall. All of his friends are welcome.
