Happy Valentines Day Hugs From Red Bucket Friends……and Baby Joey!

Jack had been abandoned along with 4 other geriatric friends. By the time that we rescued them they were dangerously emaciated, neglected, and suffering. It has been our greatest honor to care for these unwanted souls. Suffice it to say, that while McGraw, Ledger, and Styles later died from old age, they had been restored to health…and dignity, knowing love…and experiencing and savoring the contentment of feeling wanted…and cherished. Jack the solitary remaining horse from the “Malibu 5” has found a new purpose as “Pop-Pop” to our Baby Joey, who suffered blindness in his right eye and partial paralysis having been caught in a stampede and trampled at only a few days old. Joey now shares Jack’s roomy covered paddock and sleeps burrowed into a little donkey ball at the base of Jack’s thick old legs as Jack stands a nightly guard. At meal times, they eat from the same pile of hay, regardless of the fact that there are two piles. Every afternoon, they visit the “play ground” which is our big back arena, and Joey plays ‘tag’ ‘chase’ ..and ‘catch me if you can’ with a solid old citizen, who in spite of once being discarded and dumped has purpose and meaning…and a newly found bounce to his step. On this day Joey give his Pop-Pop and a big hug. We extend a huge hug to all of our friends and supporters on this Valentines Day and thank you for helping us help the horses!
