We have called her “the kid” for a few years now. There isn’t a single condescending or patronizing thought behind the nickname. In the early days she nimbly and with a great deal of tenacity found her way around our “18 year old volunteer… requirement”. She fed for years with her mom , never missing an obligation….taking her job and responsibility seriously, that means the kid fed even when she was sick…didn’t want to let the horses down, or burden another Red Riding Hood. She demonstrated a level of responsibility far beyond her years, and while we give a lot of credit to her wonderful parents, this kid is something special. She was one of the founders of the Jr. Reds….learned and demonstrated service, leadership, and philanthropy. She also really wanted a horse, a Red Bucket horse….one of her very own. We figured that it takes 9 months to have a baby…11 months to have a baby horse, so we embarked on a year long journey to find Brianna her perfect match….her very own dream come true. On more than several occasions, we pulled her back, asked her to be patient, begged her to trust the process…to trust us. His story was fraught with starvation, abandonment, and betrayal. Red Bucket saved Kingston hours from slaughter and provided the ground work and under saddle training that he required in order to be successfully placed. Because we know that “rescue is only the beginning”, we gave him the time and the training that he needed. While he will happily go English or Western, the idea of a jump is fun, and he will politely (and with great enjoyment) walk down the trail like a gentleman, Saturday he was all SHOW HORSE. Kingston and Brianna won their very first class…in their very first horse show…and then another, a second and a third. While it is a gross understatement to say that Brianna has had her dreams come true…It is our profound fulfillment to know that Kingston too, has had his life completed now that he has a kid of his own
