Meet Kolcheck…a gentle giant of a horse…extremely affectionate, loving and kind, guaranteed to steal your heart for sure! The day we met was the day I remembered what strong yet tender emotional feelings these huge, sweet draft horses bring out in a person. There is just something so fantastic about being around these gigantic, yet extremely lovable and huggable equines that seems to calm the human soul. Perhaps it is their massive presence mingled with such a gentle spirit that attracts us to these large, powerful animals. Being groomed while eating shows the calm nature of this wonderful horse. Just a year ago, this magnificent creature was in a seriously dire predicament along with three other Drafts living with him. Their owner could no longer keep them, and many were after these four to purchase and then sell them for meat by the pound! Unfortunately for the Draft Horse breed, their meat is considered “gold” to those opportunistic people who are in this type of market. Weighing in upwards of 1400 lbs. translates into dollar signs for those in the horse slaughter business. Though Red Bucket Equine Rescue was nearly to full capacity at the time these horses were in need of rescuing, room was immediately made for all four of them in the pasture. Looking back on that time period, what a wonderful choice was made for all of them to stay together and have plenty of food, sunshine and land to roam. Maximus, Chloe, Amadeus and Kolcheck enjoyed their days together and were safe and loved waiting for room to become available at the Red Bucket Ranch.
 
Standing at 17.2 hands high, Kolcheck is hard to miss now that he is on the Ranch property! He is a beautiful gray Percheron with a laid back personality. But, don’t let this easygoing and unflappable persona fool you. Kolcheck is hysterical! It’s never a surprise to see him being halter led with a rider on his bareback. There is not a saddle large enough on the ranch for him. With his broad, short back, upright shoulders and powerful hindquarters, riding Kolcheck is like sitting on a big comfy sofa that sways back and forth in smooth rhythm like a giant rocking horse. He enjoys playing “catch the ball” with Paidraig in the arena, and running and kicking up his heels and playing with the donkeys, Joey, and Jack. His big lips are often seen reaching over the paddock fence trying to give a kiss to anyone passing by. “He is delightful, loving, and extremely affectionate,” according to Susan Peirce. She says, “He does not have a mean bone in his body!” Kolcheck is adored by all at the Ranch, both horse and humans. His favorite pastime is ‘donkey watching.’ He will watch them for hours when turned out into the arena, kicking and playing happily.
 
The Percheron horse is the most famous of all the French Draft Breeds in the world today. It is recognized as outstanding for substance and soundness as well as for its characteristic beauty and elegance. They are considered proud, alert, intelligent, willing workers with great dispositions. Kolcheck is the embodiment of these amazing qualities. He is ready and eager to find his new forever home and will make someone a very delighted new owner!
