Little Buffy

Little Buffy lost her Mama when she was just a tiny baby. The Red Riding Hoods have devoted themselves to raising her….first bottle feeding, then bucket feeding followed by lots of  TLC, and then…Red Bucket Charm Farm. Buffy mastered the art of the bottle, and quickly learned to greedily slurp up her Mare-Match formula with all of the un lady-like sound effects of a toddler eagerly sucking on a sippy cup (or a dehydrated hippo quenching its thirst in a far-too-shallow pool of water). The Charm Farm, however, was a very different matter. Unlike our precious foals who seem to compete for who can be the nicest and most well behaved, vying for the title of teacher’s pet, displaying manners, charm and adorable and pleasing antics, Buffy resisted…double donkey barrel kicked…and downright refused to cooperate, behave, or lead. Never before in the history of Charm Farm have we had such an unwilling and outwardly naughty pupil. While we are ever the optimists….and refuse to say that our Buffy flunked, it is pretty clear that she is nowhere close to receiving a passing grade. For simplicity’s sake, Buffy is re-enrolling in Charm Farm….indefinitely! In the meantime, we are turning to a no-nonsense gelding to provide an equine brand of nurturing….and teach Buffy boundaries and a few manners while maintaining a bit of horsey humor! Thanks to the widening of the team effort, Buffy seems happier and a bit more cooperative! Red Bucket extends a HUGE thank you to Mike Ferrante and our friends at Equine Facilities Repair for jumping through hoops on their day off to help build Buffy’s new playpen…and for graciously surprising us by donating the cost of materials and labor.
