Their feral, previously terrified, and abused mothers now nicker for us. Even though two of them are still unable to be handled or led, they approach turnout time with joyful anticipation, and an orderly synchronization. It is clear to them that we will bring them only kindness, comfort, and a promise that is still in its infancy. The mares know that they are safe, and more important (to them) know that their little ones are safe, as well. The afternoons are peaceful for the mares, who socialize, nibble on hay…and monitor their offspring from under a heavily lidded and relaxed eye. The foals are soaring through Red Bucket Charm Farm and are leading politely, enjoying the grooming process,……and delighting us in their individuality and adorable personalities. Micah, the only colt is not nearly as adventurous as the fillies, but has proven to be a bit silly and a BIG flirt, giving kisses to Dalilah, Markie, Bethany, Miss Lauren…and any adoring Red Riding Hood that happens to purse their lips at the little miracle foal, who delights in tickling their lips with his soft little muzzle that is just beginning to sprout a tangle of billy goat whiskers.
