We have all been waiting with the anticipation of a new parent. Only in this case the actual parents have been terrified beyond belief. Their feet and legs are caked and crusted with dried mud, manure, and filth. Their coats scream of severe malnutrition, even before we see the exposed spine, emaciated neck, and defined ribs. Their bellies confirm that they should have been eating for two…but have not even had the minimal requirements that they needed. We coaxed them patiently to leave the only place that has felt safe for a very long time, the trailer that has housed them for the last 28 hours. Tonight Marlee (named after our good friend…and theirs, Marlene) and Darla (picture) are safe inside well bedded stalls at Red Bucket….a ranch that they now own in partnership with other previously abused, abandoned and slaughter bound horses. We welcome them to their second chance, which was made possible due to the generosity of you…our FaceBook friends who donated from 15 different states, joining a village of humanitarians who protect and serve horses….and their unborn foals. Thank you, we will continue to update you.
