Red Bucket Equine Rescue starts our Fifth Year! Four years ago, a small group of friends spent 36 hours in frigid weather trying to save a starving, emaciated, and suffering grey filly. She had been abandoned at a stable, along with five other horses…betrayed the first time by her owner, and the second time by the stable manager who didn’t think that he had the responsibility to feed her…..and he didn’t. After struggling to save her, we named her Gracie, called an emergency vet, and gave her the only gift that we could, mercy. It was the defining moment that changed our lives and saved the lives of many other horses. We refused to turn our backs, and made a promise to the 8 other horses who were also abandoned and unwanted. They too received a name, a red bucket and a promise of a second chance. Red Bucket was born. Today, thanks to Gracie, we have saved over 152 horses, and will save hundreds and thousands more in the years to come. Every year, we pause to remember her suffering and sacrifice. Four years later, with now thousands of friends, who in their own way join hands and hearts, and carry on the good work, initiated by a horse that we were too late to help. Thank you Gracie, we will never forget.
