Perhaps one of the easiest but most lingering gifts for the unwanted horse is love. We cannot underestimate the impact of great affection, unconditional acceptance, or the feeling of the unexpected and quite spontaneous smooch! We rescued Wallace from a slaughter auction. He came to us terrified, confused and hungry. He also came bearing the internal scars of betrayal and abandonment. Wallace has begun to enjoy our touch, our attention, and the well-placed playful pat or satisfying scratch. Like his new buddy Ranger, who was rescued from slaughter at only one month of age, Wallace is also learning that sometimes pockets hide treats…and it is safe to check! This week Wallace progressed to following us down the fence line, nickering noisily for attention…and maybe an occasional cookie…or kiss!
