Behren came to us as a twenty month old colt. He had been trained (over trained) to be a race horse, his two front tendons were bowed before he even came close to his first race, and the lovely youngster found himself with an absentee owner…, no veterinary care, and certainly no reassurance that he would be ok. He did however, find himself waiting for a truck to take him to slaughter…..thanks for doing your job, baby horse. His recovery was fraught with set backs, the most significant and life threatening was a partial de-gloving to his front left, which triggered 18 months of intense and consistent care. The first several months, hallmarked by a serious and resolute promise by Kimberly and Susan that “that leg is NOT getting infected on our watch”, and equally determined commitment on the part of Dr. Jenn Winnick who paid twice daily visits to check on our boy, lovingly dubbed “Baby Bear”. Well, Behren isn’t a baby anymore, and our devotion to his well being and dedication to him having a full and useful life has paid off. He has started his under saddle training, is sound, and has grown into the most beautiful horse imaginable….oh, did we mention that he is a FANTASTIC mover? It is rumored, that Kimberly and Susan made another pinky promise this morning….Behren is ready to be prepared for his forever home…only the most worthy need apply. Watch out world Behren is on his way!
