3 Horses Rescued from a Wash

3 horses…babies really, 2 very young mares and a long yearling. The signs of abuse were there, the scarring that we have seen too often and …..rope burns. They had been abandoned in the riverbed and, taken “hostage”, if you will by the homeless that inhabit  the wash. There was no food, and more alarming due to the heat, no access to fresh water. The Good Samaritan said that he he had been calling both the police and Animal Control since Thursday…there were no calls back and no inquiring visits to check on the horses welfare. So he called us instead, and took it a step further, sent a video. We didn’t waste a second, hooked up the trailer and followed the “video clues”. We had to climb down the steep embankment (no way we were getting the horses out this way) and made our way through a shameful mess of trash…and then we saw them. There was NO visible food and NO water. They followed us easily, eagerly snatching broken twigs and weeds, desperate for something to eat…anything.  5 Red Riding Hoods, backed by our friends who support our work, led the horses down the riverbed, up an embankment and to safety. Susan K, Amy, and Karen named them Charity, Faith, and Hope….thank goodness that in our world all three still exist.
