Pregnant Feral Mare Update

They have come in every color possible…bay, chestnut, palomino, strawberry roan, grulla, black, and in the case of little Duke, paint…with a little perfect heart shaped marking on his equally perfect little bum! Their innocence, wonder, curiosity and in some cases naughtiness has both delighted us…and grounded us. These perfect, allow us to say it again….PERFECT, healthy, and well bred youngsters are able to play, love, and grow. They will have a true second chance, and under the watchful eye of  their wonderful mothers, rescuers and adopters, these little foals…18 of them…will become beloved friends, family members, and partners. We are constantly reminded that we have much work yet to do, and that far too many of our American Horses, and their babies, are perishing in Canadian and Mexican slaughter yards in unspeakable acts of brutal violence. We celebrate our foals, their mothers, the coalition that saved the 50 horses in this rescue (Red Bucket Equine Rescue, Shirley Puga, and Marlene Dodge), and the rescues and donors who partnered with us in saving these deserving lives. In our recent visit to Villa Chardonnay to visit little Duke, and  his courageous mother and grandmother,  our vision was tearfully obscured by the gratefulness that we carry to do the work, and our gratitude to all of you who contributed in this rescue, and those of you who contribute to making our ongoing work of saving horses possible.
