Rescued from a slaughter auction, hungry, terrified, exhausted… and now, safe. Trinket and little Penelope are just getting used to the idea of enough to eat, clean bedding, kindness, and yes…even little ponytails and treats! We simply cannot begin to fathom how these precious little lives ended up at a slaughter auction, nor can we comprehend the terror…or the degradation…of a crudely-placed hip number, which was far too large for these tiny little bodies and needed to be glued elsewhere. Our newest residents awoke, covered in shavings, to breakfast, compassion, and a new day! In addition to a red bucket, a name, dignity, and a promise that means something, little Penelope received her first halter, albeit a bit large for her tiny little head, AND her first lesson in leading from Miss Lauren, head mistress of the Red Bucket Charm Farm. Later she sported tiny little piggy tails and a much-needed grooming. Mama mini, Trinket, seemed to be very hungry, massively relieved, and very interested in the loving kindness extended to her by the Red Riding Hoods. We are grateful to be able to save and serve these tiny little equines, and thankful for the heroic efforts of Shirley Puga who led the charge in rescuing Trinket, Penelope, and 33 other desperate and deserving horses. Thank you to those who contributed to the rescue and helped fund our ability to say YES! A big thank you to our special friend and rescue colleague, Doug Lake, for his selfless service in hauling so many of these desperate creatures! It takes a village, and we are very grateful for those who make our beautiful work a reality for the horses that we serve!
