People do not value what is free, which is why giving a horse away is seldom a good idea…. for the horse. Maestro, we are told, is a dream under saddle, delightful on trail, quiet enough for children to ride bareback, and he is even trained in dressage. He was given away to a “good home”, and returned some time later…little more than skin and bones…dejected, unwanted, and confused. His original owner reached out to us and asked for our help, and it was pretty tough not to, once we met this marvelous 10-year-old gelding. While we haven’t ridden him, and won’t until he is back to good flesh and great health, we are finding him to be adorable…as adorable as an 18.2 Belgian draft cross gets. We are loving our own version of “Mr. Big” who we are finding out enjoys being groomed, relishes all types of attention, and yes…is eating like a HORSE! We really do not think that this gentle giant will be here for long, but since this will be Maestro’s third chance, we are going to make sure that he gets the loving forever home that he deserves. In the meantime, Maestro is stealing our hearts…and his share of carrots along the way. Welcome Maestro, you are valued!
