Top O’ The Mornin’ from the Irish horses (and those who wish they were) of Red Bucket! In May of 2009, we rescued 42 beautifully bred Irish TB’s hours from the kill truck picking them up. They were emaciated, shattered, hopeless and vacant. The stallions were standing in cramped filthy pens nose-to-tail-tail-to-nose eating each others tails in a half hearted and desperate last chance for survival. The mares were untouched, terrified and fighting for the few dead leaves that had blown into their rancid holding pen….the hay, or the hope for hay had been long gone. Today many of those horses Finbar, Striker, Gaelen, Magnum, Dashiel, Kismet, Kingston, O’Hara, River, Sampson and Piper are loved, treasured and home. They are trail horses, Eventer’s, Hunter’s, show horses…best friends and family members. Many others like Delilah are in training in preparation for their second chances. Still others like Juliette, Zen, Fiona, Sophie, and Cinder are receiving the gift of pasture while they await their forever home. These horses are all thriving, all having gained 300-400 pounds, confidence and dignity thanks to the generosity of our supporters and donors who make our work possible. Today our horses who were once out of luck, are enjoying the luck of the Irish!!
