Horses being Horses

…in watching their marvelously reciprocal behavior and delightful relationships. One small “herd” involves Cash, Banjo, Liam, Knox, and Turner. These BFF’s thoroughly enjoy their time together and delight both the Red Riding Hoods and our neighbors who pass by to watch the show. It is hard not to belly laugh at their play time…and hard for us not to feel the deep emotion wash over us…we are so grateful to be able to provide them with such joy. Here…

September 2017 Culture Message

…round the ring, and far too many horse shows. When the competition out-performed him and arthritis and lameness claimed him, Ben, still little more than a commodity, found his honesty and work ethic rewarded by being stepped down into a life as a lesson horse. Not surprisingly, at some point 5 grams of Bute a day no longer kept Ben sound enough to earn his keep…as defined by multiple daily jumping lessons…and hence it was determined that Ben shoul…

…jigsaw puzzle. The show horse who was no longer competitive, passed down to a family who wanted something “better”, who then became a lesson horse but could not stay sound (even on four grams of Bute a day) and then ended up at an auction where horses are sold by the pound to kill buyers. They all have a story, and while many of the stories differ, the one similarity tends to be one where the horse cannot meet the expectations of those who they c…
